Moving Checklist
If you are lucky you will have a gap of around one month between exchange of contracts and completion of the sale, which should give you just enough time to organise all the arrangements. Apart from the legal and financial matters, here are some suggestions for making a checklist of everything else you need to do.
1) Check insurance - you need full insurance cover for your new home immediately you exchange contracts.
2) Organise Removals - get quotes from removal companies or van hire and check availability for the completion date. If necessary, find out about storage facilities also.
3) People who need to be told that you are moving:
Personal: Family / Friends / Neighbours / Employer
Services: Mobile phone / Gas / Electricity / Water / Telephone / Post office (redirection of mail to your new address) / Cable or satellite TV company / TV licensing authority / Internet service provider
Financial: Bank or building society accounts / Investments and premium bonds / Credit cards / Council tax / Insurance - home, car / Healthcare insurance / Breakdown or warranty cover / Pension / Inland Revenue / Hire purchase or rental
Other: Accountant / Doctor / Dentist / Optician / Vet / Solicitor / DVLA driving licence & car registration / Car breakdown cover / Schools / Library / Magazine subscriptions / Clubs / Catalogues / Charities
